The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), in partnership with the Ministry of Public Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan, provided a total of 385,000 textbooks and teacher's manuals to 208 secondary schools in Namangan and Syrdarya regions to improve student learning outcomes.
The $ 10 million Cambridge University Press textbook is designed to support the teaching of Computer Science and Information Technology (IAT) in grades 5-11 and Foreign Language - English in grades 1-11. Upon completion of the first pilot this school year, the teaching materials will be revised based on feedback from teachers and published by the Ministry of Public Education for delivery to all schools across the country at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year. As a result, more than 6.5 million students in Uzbekistan will have access to high-quality textbooks, and tens of thousands of teachers will have access to high-quality manuals.
Through its Uzbekistan Integrity Education Program, USAID worked closely with the Republican Education Center to evaluate, review, and adapt new teaching materials to the context of Uzbekistan. USAID is also closely assisting more than 1,000 foreign language and English and IT teachers in the use of new textbooks and teacher manuals and in the use of person-centered learning strategies.
